Course objectives
Ability to translate and explicate the Roman law as the historical source. The development of the Roman law, reading and historical interpretation of the constitutions of Romans rulers. (The sources to read are changed each year.)
Syllabus
  • 1) Relations between fas and ius. 2) Leges XII tabularum. 3) The sources of law in the age of Roman Republic. 4) The role of praetores in Roman justice. 5) The development of law in the age of principate. 6) The law in the later Roman Empire. 7) The Theodosian Code and Corpus iuris civilis. 8) How the barbarians and the middle ages received Roman law. 9) The basic terminology of Roman public law. 10) Collective reading of elected sources. 11-13) Collective reading of elected sources.
