- Course objectives
- Continuation of normative grammar of the Attic dialect of Ancient Greek. The main aims of the course are to deepen the knowledge of Ancient Greek grammar.
At the end of the course, students will be able to analyze complex Greek sentences; explain the use of concrete grammatical features in Greek sentences; understand authentic Greek texts with the use of dictionaries. - Syllabus
- 1. Revision: passive aorist and future tense. 2. Noun declination: nt-stems. 3. System of Greek participles. 4. Principles of vowel contraction in Greek. 5. Contracted –e verb stems. 6. Noun declination: s-stems. 7. Contracted –a verb stems. 8. Formation of subjunctive. 9. Use of conjunctive in main clauses. 10. Contracted –o verb stems. 11. Conjunctive in conditional, purpose and time subordinate clauses. 12. Noun declination: -i and –y vocalic stems. 13. Supplement to irregular comparison of adjectives.

- Teaching methods
- Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist of lectures, practice (grammar exercises), reading of Greek texts, drill.
- Assessment methods
- Students’ active attendance, including homework, is necessary. During the semester it is necessary to pass one written test. Credits are obtained by passing final written test. The test consists of a short coherent Greek text translation, a translation of sentences from Greek into Czech, morphological identifying of verb forms exercise, declension of nouns and adjectives. Pass mark is 60%.
