Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
orientate in wide and various Wernisch's work;
analyse and intepret Wernisch's texts;
characterize the most important elements of Wernisch's poetics and its tendencies;
discuss the historical context in the years 1961-1989 and Wernisch's work as a significant part of it, and also to understand the context of individual publications, functions and means of samizdat and so on.
Syllabus
  • Basic orientation in secondary literature;
  • personage of Ivan Wernisch - his literary, editorial and creative activity;
  • orientation in wide Wernisch's work and biography, including problems with texts or sections of individual books shifting from one to another;
  • analysis and interpretation of Wernisch's texts (the sixties, the samizdat phase, the nineties, the new Millennium phase);
  • characteristics of Ivan Wernisch's poetics and its tendencies;
  • Ivan Wernisch and his role in czech and international literature (predecessors and similiar authors).

Lectures, class discussion, analysis and interpretation of texts, presentations by every student, reading.
