Course objectives
After finishing this course the student will be able to understand and explain the issues shaping the new cultural policy of the state in historical context of the Second Republic, the Protectorate and the building of socialism (i.e. 1938-1958). This will include insights into key topics of thinking about theater of the time – the so-called new (socialist) realism, new playwrights moral and nationalistic emphasis, the so called “directorism” (režisérismus) and other contemporary phenomena.

Teaching methods
After teacher's presentation of the general and particular features of the subject, students are guided to interpretation of the chosen extracts, and class discussions follow. Individual homework (mainly bibliographical research), analysis and interpretation based on debate in the seminar.
Assessment methods
Students will be evaluated for an active approach to the studied topics, for homework and for in class work.
