Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to compare Aegean prehistory with prehistory of other european regions, mainly Balcans and Central Europe.
Syllabus
  • 1. Chronology of European prehistory, specifics of European and Aegean chronological systems. Enviroment and paleolithics. 2. Neolit period: first farmers 3. Eneolit/chalcolit: Rexlexion of firts states 4. Late Chalcolit and Early Bronze Age - spreading of knowledge of the metal technology 5. Early Iron Age - reflexion of Near East empires 6. Final phase of Early BA - first urban centres in Central Europe 7. Middle BA - "Age of heroes" and warship 8. Late BA - Urnfield cultures - influence of Mycenaean and Solar cults. 9. Final phases of L BA and beginning of Iron Age - Hesiod's Iron Era 10. Halstatt - New era is coming. 11. Etruscans and Central Europe 12. Overview of metodological approaches to cultural changes
