- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is the completion and deepening of the knowledge of the normative grammar of the Attic dialect in the Classical period, i.e. morphology: optative, perfect stem (thematic verbs), asigmatic aorist and future passive (thematic verbs), athematic aorist; syntax: optative functions in main and subordinate clauses, content clauses, optative clauses, indirect speech. At the end of this course students will be able to use the grammar and vocabulary covered during lectures (textbook Lexis) in the active as well as passive translation of the Ancient Greek texts.

- 1. Revision.
- 2. Optative; optative clauses, optative in main and subordinate clauses.
- 3. Reflexive pronouns; optativus obliquus; indirect speech.
- 4. Mediopassive perfect system of verbs with vocalic and explosive stems.
- 5. Plusquamperfect.
- 6. Active perfect system of verbs with vocalic and explosive stems.
- 7. Perfect system of verbs eidenai, dedienai, tethnanai.
- 8. Irregular passive aorist and future passive; verbal adjectives.
- 9. Athematic aorist.
- 10. Aorist active and middle; future active and middle (verbs with liquid stems).
- 11. Aorist passive and perfect (verbs with liquid stems).

- Teaching methods
- Planned learning activities and teaching methods consist of lectures, reading Greek, excercises and drills during the lessons, homeworks.
- Assessment methods
- During the semester it is obligatory to pass two written partial tests. Credits are given at the end of the semester after the passing of the final written test which consists of translating a text from Greek to Czech, translating simple sentences from Czech to Greek, identifying and translating verb and noun forms. With regard to the results of the partial tests, credits are awarded for scoring 60% (both partial tests passed), 65% (one partial test passed) or 70% (none of the partial tests passed).
