Course objectives
In order to provide a sound foundation for the very wide range of practical matters that language teachers deal with it is essential that trainee teachers develop a clear understanding of what language essentially is, and how languages are learnt. This course addresses the second of these – the field of study is known as Language Acquisition.

Teaching methods
The course consists of weekly seminars only. The trainees will delve into various aspects of this field through extensive reading, conducting experiments and analysing findings, and by reflecting on their own experiences as learners and teachers.
Assessment methods
The course concludes with a knowledge test. During the semester students will undertake various activities and make presentations of their research to their peers. In addition, they will regularly contribute to online forum discussions as part of "constructing knowledge", this being one of they Vygotsky's key constructs. These will be assessed.
