The aim of the course of Literature I is to make students acquainted with the background of the development and of the diversification of the genre in the given period... At the end of this course, students should be able to define basic notions of the literary context in question and connect literary questions with the non-literary considerations. Students should be able to classify a given author according to this context and duly comment on his place. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- Reading and analysis of Belgian texts around the topic of the "roman policier à énigme". Working in the same time with the movie adapted from the book.

- Le roman policier: 1) Définition et évolution 2) Méthodes d'analyse 3) Analyses d'extraits et application des analyses 4) Echanges et discussions en classe autour des textes 5) Comparaisons romans-adaptations cinématographiques Le cours du semestre d'automne 2015 portera sur George Simenon.

- Teaching methods
- Seminar: Application of the acquired theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. In the form of a presentation the students show their capability to connect their theoretical knowledge while working with a concrete text.
- Assessment methods
- Colloquium is obtained for attendance and active participation in the course (min. 80 %) and after successfully completing a final test (success rate 80 %) where students prove their capability to connect theoretical knowledge with the analysis and interpretation of literary texts. In disputed assessment cases the professor can ask the students for an additional interview over a presentation made in the seminar.
