Course objectives
The objective of the course is to introduce students into the grammatical system of the Old Slavonic language. Phonetic and morphological evolution processes during the pre-historical period up to the time of the Slavonic unity disintegration as well as development of the individual Slavonic languages will be explained.
Syllabus
  • 1. Old Slavonic – the first Slavonic standard language. 2. Some aspects of the origins of the Slavonic script and Old Slavonic literature. 3. The origin of Old Slavonic, its differentiation and emergence of the individual Church Slavonic redactions. 4. Old Church Slavonic phonetics. 5. Old Church Slavonic morphology. 6. Old Church Slavonic as the liturgical language.

It is obligatory for students to hand in a written work. Oral exam - one question on Old Church Slavonic morphology and one question on historical context.
