Course objectives
The objective of the course is gaining overview of the language of vernacular architecture, and of the methodology of its research and its „second life“ in the academic discourse of art history and heritage protection. The diversity of typology, material and architectural forms is explained, with the focus on the Central Europe, as well as its apropriation by the academical trained architects since the end of the 19th century (Jurkovič, Lechner, Puig y Cadafalch etc.). Various aspects of heritage protection and open air museums are discussed thoroughly. Students are encouraged to deal with this issues in their seminar papers and presentations, while utilizing their personal local experience.
