Course objectives
At the end of the course students should have a broader understanding of innovation in the context of its normativity and related phenomenons of communication and its technological mediation. The main foundation of the course's syllabus is the critical theory and its reflection.
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction: theoretical basis, understanding the structure of reality and its representation
  • 2) Critical theory: reading focused on the communication and information sharing, world being changed by evolving technology
  • 3) Technological determinism
  • 4) Reflecting on the critical theory: natural and construed, unintended consequences of social action, accountability and responsibility
  • 5) Innovation and design in a normative light: innovation and immitation, innovation and societal problems, technosolutionism and technooptimism

Assessment methods
Student's performance is evaluated continuously — written preparation, attendance and art projects are awarded. At least 34 points (of 72 total) are required to pass the course.
