- The seminar focuses on the interpretation of fantastic literature, especially of Czech and Slovak origin, from the early 1990s to the present. Attention will be paid to breakthroughs at the beginning of this period, to the development of the genres of fantastic literature in the local context and to the current tendencies. We will focus mainly on the genre Czech and Slovak fantastic (associated with fandom) and on its transitions to non-genre literature (postmodern literature and the current trend of using fantastic elements outside of traditional fantastic literature).
After completing the course, students will be able to:
Interpret texts of contemporary Czech fantastic literature, considering their genre specifics;
Analyse the development trends of contemporary Czech fantastic;
Orient themselves in the recent history and present of Czech fantastic;
Name key texts and authors of contemporary Czech fantastic literature. - Syllabus
