Course objectives
The main goal of this subject is that students acquire communicative resources related to oral expression and linguistic variation, so that they are capable of producing spoken texts at an intermediate level (B1-B2). At the same time, listening comprehension will be important in this course, with listenings that will help students increase their knowledge about culture and literature.
Syllabus
  • The course will be divided in 6 thematic units. Students will be required to elaborate and interpret dialogs and texts related to the different kinds of discourse. 1. Oral language: characteristics 2. Diaphasic variation: registers 3. Formal spoken discourse a. Academic language b. Legal language c. Language at work 4. Oral standard and language in mass media 5. Informal spoken discours a. Colloquial language b. Vulgar language 6. Diatopic variation: introduction to Catalan dialectology
