Course objectives
Introduction to the basics of Christian iconography, projects with specific material. Practical skills for determining topics.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- understand the images in New Testament Bible scenes and the most frequently depicted Christian saints
- describe these images
- know how to determine the theme of an image
- determine the theme and type of image of a story/Christian saint
- understand the basic meanings of numbers and colours
- link the images of Christian saints with their historical context and place

  • Introduction to Iconography
  • The significance of numbers
  • The significance of colours
  • Christian iconography: Marian and Christological, apostolic, evangelical, Czech terrestrial patrons and other commonly depicted saints
