Course objectives
Students will learn about the history of theater in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus from Kievan Rus to modernity with the focus on the theater development in the three countries during Soviet times and the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, a student will be able to:
- identify the major stages in the development of Eastern Slavic theater, its main features and personalities;
- understand the place of Eastern Slavic theater in the history of world theater of the 20th century;
- follow the differences between Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian theatrical traditions;
- apply cognitive theatrical methods for the analysis of theatrical works.

Teaching methods
Lecture (2 hours per week) in English, class discussion in English or Czech. Individual presentations.
Assessment methods
Completed tasks and participation in class discussions is required.
Final test will be in ELF system and will contain multiple choice and open questions based on the lectures and discussions. The test requires 60% of correct answers to pass.
80% attendance is required to pass the course.
