Prerequisites
Knowledge of French at C1 level by CEFR. Ability to analytically think and interpret literary text.

Course objectives
The objective of this course is to deepen the knowledge of contemporary prose written in French, with a focus on "biographical narratives". It is therefore a subject freely related to the compulsory courses of French literature.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- Identify and summarize the main features of biographical stories;
- Identify and describe major trends in current French prose;
- Write an essay analyzing and interpreting one work genreally classifiable between so-called biographical stories;
Syllabus
  • 1) Contemporary French literature, the current French novel,
  • 2) Methodology I - Viart: "Fictions biographiques",
  • 3) Methodology II - Buisine, Cohn, Gefen,
  • 4) Analysis of texts: Michon, Macé, Echenoz, etc.,
  • 5) Final Colloquium.

Active participation in the seminar (reading and commentary on reading texts), essay in the form of commentaire composé and final colloquium.
