Course objectives
The course focuses on the main tendencies of modern Lithuanian literature from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain main features of the development of the modern Lithuanian and Latvian literature (XIX - XX century).

  • Cultural and political identity in Lithuania at the beginning of 19th century.
  • National revival in Lithuania
  • Lithuanian literature and the literature of Lithuania.
  • The institutional frame of the natopnal literature.
  • Literary classicism, modernism and avantgard
  • Exil in the lithuanian and latvian literature.
  • Literatura in the Soviet Lithuania
  • Contemporary lithuanian literature
