- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to make students acquainted with the backgrounds of synchronic morphology as well as its basic terminology, such as morpheme, derivations, compositions, borrowings and other types of creating new words in French. Students should be able to define basic grammar terms. When analyzing particular texts and exercises, he or she should be able to apply these terms and deduce from the observed phenomena the proper conclusions. At the end of this course, students will be able to deduce and explain the rules of basic morphologic phenomena. He or she will be able justify and bring serious arguments to support his or her thesis. Eventually, he or she will be able to propose a solution in accord with the standard.

- Basic morphological concepts (morpheme, allomorph, root, affix) Word formation in French (derivation, composition, borrowing, neologisms, abbreviation). Guessing unknown words in French text. Noun. Nominalization.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture: exposition and definitions of basic terms and their exemplification on different types of specific texts, proceeding from diverse registers. Seminar: application of theoretical knowledge on authentic texts and exercises.
- Assessment methods
- Students can obtain final result only if they participate actively in the course, attendance is required (80%). During the whole semester, students works in the course and in the end, there is as written test (minimum: 60% of achievement) focused on the topics discussed during the semester, where students show their ability to explain phenomena in accordance (or in conflict) with the standard.
