- Italian history and culture from the 5th to the 16th century.
- Syllabus
- The main topics of the course Introduction to the History and Culture of Italy are as follows: barbarian tribes in Italy – the Goths, the Longobards and the Franks; the Normans and the birth of the Papal State; the Investiture Controversy – the Emperor against the Pope; the period of the comune and the transition to the signoria; the Great Schism within the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages (heresy); the period of the Renaissance and the beginning of the decline of Italy.
