- Course objectives
- The purpose of the Ph.D. exam is to prove the students’ ability to present in an oral form selected topics form linguistic disciplines corresponding with the orientation of their thesis and with orientation of the Ph.D. study group in the work of which they actively participate. The aim of the exam is to check the ability of Ph.D. students to interpret language phenomena, to reflect critically present-day sources, to react in discussion and to argument in a factual way.
- Learning outcomes
- Having participated in the course, students will be able:
- to present specific linguistic topics in an oral form;
- to interpret language phenomena;
- to reflect critically present-day sources relating to the particular discipline;
- to react in discussion and to provide factual argumentation. - Syllabus
- Students must take the exam in the fifth or sixth term of their studies. The exam takes place in front of an examination board, during the examination period (i.e. in June or in January). Three months before the exam takes place (i.e. either in March or in October) students will contact the supervisor of their specialization, who will assign them three spheres of topics. For each of them, students will prepare a fifteen-minute presentation. Two spheres of topics will be presented in front of the examination board in an oral form (the choice of two out of three assigned spheres of topics is a competence of the examination board and will take place shortly before the exam begins).
