- Course objectives
- The main objectives of the course are:
- Familiarization with the problems of literary criticism as a practical discipline between journalism and literary studies;
- Familiarization with the methods of literary criticism and its possibilities and limits given practice;
- Creation of works from ranks of the literary criticism, their peer review and metacriticism.
The seminar will be focused on reading historical texts evaluating literary news (especially new Czech poetry) published in the 70th and 80th of the 20th century and analysis of the methods used in these texts. - Learning outcomes
- After the completion of the course, the student shall be able to:
- interpret a text of literary criticism;
- identify the influence of contemporary "social order", as well as the critics' "handwriting";
- reach generalizing, metacritical conclusions over literary texts;

- Teaching methods
- The teaching methodology is based on individual research upon and interpretation of critical texts of the previous century, their assessment, and comparison, as well as on students' individual critical writing. A substantial part of the work in class is the discussion of the chosen texts.

- Individual project aimed at testing the studenst´s insight into the main theories, concepts and methodologies of the discipline.
