- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The goal of this interactive seminar is to investigate the role of material, visual and ritual cultures into the christianization of the Mediterranean. Working on key-examples from the 3rd to the 6th century will be analyzed: 1) the spaces; 2) the ritual; 3) the decoration, and 4) the objects involved into the process of christianization. Students will thus involved into a trans-disciplinary reflection, with the possibility to further develop their skills in presentation, discussion and writing. Furthermore, performative actions will be part of this seminars/experiences. Participants will try to reconstruct - with their own bodies - the spaces of initiation as well as the ritual movements of the neophytes.

- The student will be able to:
- understand the relation between space, images and initiatory rituals
- discuss the performative dimension of visual culture
- know key monuments form the 3rd to the 6th c. on a Mediterranean level - Syllabus
