- Prerequisites
- The course is intended for students of master degree studies. Basic knowledge on history of European baroque painting in 17th and 18th century is presupposed.
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The course introduces selected chapters from the history of the baroque ceiling painting in Central Europe and Italy.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course student should be able to:
- describe the specifics of ceiling paintings in the 17th and 18th century;
- describe the main iconographic topics of the baroque ceiling painting and explain their meaning;
- describe basic technologies of early modern ceiling painting. - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to the study of the baroque ceiling painting.
- 2. Iconography and iconology: glorification/apotheosis as the most important iconographic theme of early modern art.
- 3. Illusionism in baroque ceiling painting; relationship between ceiling paintings and architecture.
- 4. Technology of baroque wall painting.
