Course objectives
The course is a contextual part of the curriculum. It follows in a functional way the compulsory subjects of cultural, educational and philological orientation. Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the subject is to provide the students with the knowledge and understanding of specific areas of literature and reference, competence for work with children's readership research and children's and adolescent readers, the ability to reflect subjects in the form of a project or a scientific text. In the context of the field of Information Studies and Librarianship, the course is focused on application of knowledge mainly in non-formal educational environment of libraries and other memory institutions.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course student:
- has an overview of both Czech and foreign literature for children and teenagers as well as marketing related;
- understands child readership in the information society;
- has the ability to work with the children's book as a tool for education, therapy and cultural development;
- is able to apply the knowledge gained in the practical plane;
- can critically reflect the topic of the subject in the form of written communications

  • 1. The concept of children's literature and children's readership;
  • 2. Outline of the development of literature for children and youth in the Czech Republic and abroad before 2000;
  • 3. Outline of the development of literature for children and youth in our country after 2000;
  • 4. Outline of the development of literature for children and youth abroad after 2000
  • 5. Famous Czech and world illustrators of children's and teens' books focusing on the 2nd half of the 20th and 21st centuries;
  • 6. Market (Publishing) of children's and teens literature;
  • 7. Thematic composition of contemporary literature for children and youth in the cultural and social context;
  • 8. Reader preferences of children (researches, surveys), preference effects;
  • 9. Literature and teenagers;
  • 10. Children and teens literature, technology and the media;
  • 11. Forms and tools for working with children and teens by the reader;
  • 12. Information sources on children's and teens literature;
  • 13. Final reflection of the subject and activities of the students
