- Course objectives
- The course is focused on reading and interpreting of Finnish texts. At the end of the course students should be able to read independently Finnish fiction, translate it adequatly, interpret unknown frasis and derivates just according to their roots and primar meaning, construct the whole paradigms of forms found in the text, and even evaluate an esthetic and cultural value of a particular text.
- Syllabus
- The texts are supposed to be chosen according to their language, content and (inter-)cultural significance relevance. Most of the texts have been translated to Czech, thus students may compare their own translations with those of professional translators and become aqcuainted with basic translation criticism and theory terms. Such texts are e.g. novels and stories by Mika Waltari or contemporary authors like Rosa Liksom. The next group might consist of such text like those by Ilmari Kianto dealing with elementary Finnish cultural and hisorical data.
