- Course objectives
- The seminar introduces the main topics and concepts of literary theory to the students. The concepts are introduced in their historical contexts, in connection with the tradition of poetics, rhetorics, philosophy, aesthetics and other disciplines, and also in a wider context of general literary criticism.
Part and parcel of the seminar is an interpretation of particular theoretical and artistic texts. - Learning outcomes
- After fiishing the course the students will:
- gain literary theoretical terminology with regards to poetology, genology, versology and narratology;
- understand basic literary theoretical approaches and strategies for interpretation of literary texts;
- be able to apply these strategie to interpretation of literary texts;
- gain the skills to use primary as well as secondary literary theoretical sources. - Syllabus

- Seminar uses the methods of presentation, analysis and interpretation of scholarly and artistic texts, using explanation, in-class discussions and individual work of students.
- Assessment methods
- In order to be given credit the students are obliged to fulfil following conditions: to act actively during the lessons, to submit short summaries of the seminary texts, to pass the written final test.
