- Introduction to early modern art
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course student will be able to recognize basic topics of early modern art (artists, patrons, function of artworks, iconographical topics, context of the artworks)
- Syllabus
- Finnish art from the middle ages to 20th century: castle and cathedral in Turku Olavinlinna artists of 17th and 18th centuries (Joachim Neiman, Elias Brenner, Mikael Toppelius ad.) from neoclassicism to romantism (Erik Cainberg; Werner Holmberg; Fanny Churberg) painters of the end of 19th century and beginning of 20th century (Albert Edelfelt; Helene Schjerfbeck; Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Hugo Simberg ad.) art nouveau architecture modern architecture (Gottlieb Eliel Saarinen; Eero Saarinen; Alvar Aalto).
