Course objectives
The seminar is focused the history of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival from its beginnings to present. We will research the course and results of its editions, watching selected competitions films and analysing press reflection.
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
to understand the importance and development of IFF KV in historical context
to expand knowledge of the history of Czech and world cinema from the perspective of the Karlovy Vary IFF
to gain new research experience.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
understand how the international film festival works
understand the importance of film festivals for the history of world cinema
analyse informations from open sources

Teaching methods
Lectures, film screenings, discussions, readings and analyses critical reflections, oral history, presentations, homework.
Assessment methods
The final grade is based on points. Some points can be obtained by ongoing discussion activity within individual lessons, others by completing a task, which can be an individual or team solution of a research assignment and finalization of its results in a live presentation or in text form.

Activities in the seminar will be partly connected with the course Cinema of Central Europe: Poland and Hungary. Some topics and screening will be common.
