- Course objectives
- The goal of the seminar is to teach students to understand the part of natural language which relates to the computation of number and numerals as well as their interaction. In order to get there, students will acquire knowledge of rules behind these phenomena on all levels of linguistic description: from morphological, through syntactic to semantic and pragmatic aspects. The students will acquire knowledge of current formal theories of number, numerals, their interaction and compositional assembly not only at the syntactic but also at the semantic level. The learned information can be used by the students, e.g., when writing their BA/MA thesis. A part of the lecture series will be dedicated to the systematic preparation of students to design their own experiment which can be used as a basis for a thesis. The seminar has partially a research goal, as well as a pedagogical one.
