Course objectives
The main aim of the subject is the introductionof the srudents to the issue of crisis and crisis intervention and development of professional skills of a worker in the context of psychological and social crisis help. The subject follows the findings of the basic psychological sciences (general psycology, personality psychology, social psychology and psychopathology). The interpretation is focused, from the broad spectrum of life crises, on crises rising from sudden traumatizing stress (CAN syndrom, rape, PTSD), crises from expected changes in life (tranzistorical), crises rising from personality, situational crises and so-called psychiatric importunatenesses (emergent psychoses, drug or alcohol intoxication, sucidial behaviour). The students are being familiarized with the aims and means of crisis intervention for the solution of individual types of crises and they individualy, within the seminars, search for test procedures and propose solutions.
Syllabus
  • Content of the subject aquirement of basic theoretical knowledge and terms of this field (what is crisis, crisis types, crisis forms, pathological course of crisis, the solution of crisis, forms of help, help and inspection, crisis intervention, characteristics and principles of crisis intervention, the process of crisis intervention, hardness and limits of crisis intervention). Course outline: 1. The terms “crisis counseling” and “crisis”. 2. Professional crisis help, basic principles, aims, forms. 3. Crisis intervention and its basic methods and techniques: consultation preparation, work with a client and his/her story, consultation outcome, expectations and commissions, techniques of guiding and leading, and techniques of effective communication. 4. Specific topics of crisis intervention and professional crisis help, crisis intervention and counseling with various types of crises, such as: 4a. Crises from expected life changes, developmental crises – family life cycle, marital crises, critical situations in woman’s and man’s lives, middle-age crisis, pubescence crisis, and adolescence crisis. 4b. Crises following a sudden traumatic stress: acute reaction to a stress, post-traumatic stress disorder. 4c. Crises in a pathological context: drug addiction, suicide topics, eating disorders, maltreatment and abuse topic, and domestic violence.

Seminars, discusion, case report
Assessment methods
Seminar focused on work in groups and cooperative education. Discussion and situational educational methods (real problem case solution) and didactic games (model and simulated situations) are used. Course evaluation – credit A written seminar thesis on a topic of crisis and crisis intervention.
