- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to present students in the possibilities and methodology of the guidance and counselling process according to selected theories of career decision making and career development theories. The course processed from self-assesment of the student, resulting in a portfolio, throughout the reflection of the specifics of working with various types of clients' orders, to the training of selected parts of the counseling interview.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- identify similarities and differences between theories and comparison its implication for guidance counselling process
- produce a respectful and supportive environment for client
- formulate an offer for a counselling agreementt with client, specifying objectives and approaches that suit the client´s priorities and resources
- assess different types of information/information resources together with client based on their interests and competences of the client
- apply suitable models/theory for decision making, for support or planning career development of the client
- argue for their preparation/scenario for first counselling meeting - Syllabus
- Course outline:
- 1. Career guidance services in the Czech Republic and Europe, trends in conceiving and services provision, quality evaluation of career guidance services, the role of this services for employment policy, education policy and social inclusion policy.
- 2. Career education as parts of career guidance services
- 3. Career information and support people in obtaining and using the relevant information about themselves, the labour market and educational opportunities
- 4. Theories focusing on content: teories of career choice and decision making (e.g. Parsons, Holland, Schein) and how to use it in the guidance process
- 5. Theories of focusing on life-span process(Ginsber, Super)and how to use it in the guidance process
- 6. Currently theories of career development (Peavey, McMahon, Savickas) and how to use it in the guidance process
- 7. Career guidance counselling (process, aims, stage, scenarios and methodology of guidance process to support of career choice and career development of the client
- 8.-10. Training and reflection (contract between counsellor and client, counseling interview, career planning, professional dilemma, creativity in guidance and counselling etc.)
- 11. Scenarios of the first counseling meeting.
