Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of forensic psychology, with the theoretical background and insight into the application of these principles in practice. The focus will be on the importance of forensic psychiatry and psychology for criminal proceedings, on penitentiary psychology. Furthermore, the course will focus on the application of psychology in investigative, judicial, penitentiary, and post-penitentiary practice.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- identify and summarize important aspects of forensic psychology;
- identify and describe selected aspects of forensic psychology from the perspective of the perpetrator, victim and forensic psychologists;
- design a psychodiagnostic battery that can be used in the forensic field;
Syllabus
  • Course of forensic psychology / Course, division of forensic psychology in relation to   other psychological disciplines; History of forensic psychology and its development to the present; Methodology in forensic psychology; Explanation of the term criminology, criminology, crime; forensic, penitentiary, and post-penitentiary psychology, police psychology, penology; Basics of criminal law and criminal procedure code, legal qualification of criminal conduct and criminal liability, types of punishments, protective measures.
  • Personality and danger of the offender / characteristics of offenders, psychological nature of aggressive behavior, personality of the offender according to the type of crime (property crime, violent crime, sexually motivated crime, organized crime, particularly serious crimes and others), delinquent and criminal behavior, theory of aggression, motivation of violent crime.
  • Sexually motivated crime / criminal law classification of sexually motivated crime, psychodiagnostic and sexological diagnostic methods and psychotherapeutic options, paraphilia and sexual delinquency, protective sexological treatment/
  • Mental Illness in Forensic Practice / Institute for Secure Prevention Detention. Institutional and outpatient protective treatment system. Mental illness significant from the point of view of forensic practice (personality disorders, mental disabilities, psychotic illnesses, paraphilia, addiction to narcotics and psychotropic substances) /
  • Forensic psychology / Forensic psychological expertise, the task of forensic experts, forensic expert opinions, psychological aspects of the trial, assessment of the credibility of witness statements and testimonies of perpetrators and victims, simulation, dissimulation /
