Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the issues of librarianship, to explain the basic concepts, legislation, and standards applicable to library processes and in library services. The aim is also to explain the transformation of library work from 1918 to the present and to show current trends in libraries.
Learning outcomes
After the course, students will:
- know the basic concepts of librarianship;
- understand library processes and services;
- know the development of the Czech librarianship from 1918 to the present;
- understand the changes in library work in recent years.

  • Basic terminology.
  • The role of libraries and librarians in society, librarian occupations.
  • Development of Czech Librarianship from 1918 to the present.
  • Overview of library legislation and standards.
  • Library development concept: trends in modern librarianship.
  • The system of the libraries.
  • Processes in libraries.
  • Library services.
