- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of Modern Greek (A0-A1 CEFR).
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases related to areas of the most immediate relevance;
- communicate in the most common situations of everyday life (introduce himself, ask questions about hobbies, languages etc.);
- understand simple texts focused on given topics;
- write simple short texts;
- explain and apply grammatical phenomena they were taught. - Syllabus
- Grammar: Ellinika sto pi kai fi, lessons 1-7: the alphabet, phonetics, the article, present tense active and passive of 1st conjugations, present tense active of 2nd conjugation, numerals, regular nouns and adjectives.
- Topics: Greetings, introduction, studies, family, employment, languages, time, weather, daily schedule.

- Teaching methods
- The course has a form of a seminar and lectures. Homework is required during semester – students prepare assigned grammatical exercises and short translations from Modern Greek into Czech and vice versa.
- Assessment methods
- Requirements for obtaining the credit: 4 written tests (min 70 %) consisting of exercises aimed at testing the essential language skills. Minimum attandance: 70%.
