Course objectives
Aim of this course is to introduce students to basic themes from developmental psychology: influential developmental psychologists, history of developmental psychology, "traditional" themes and actual trends in research with focus on the second half of life (young adulthood to old age).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to use the information from the developmental psychology (based on historical personalities, theories, actual topics and paradigmas...) to make reasoned decisions about the basic/applied topics from all over the human lifespan and apply them in the context of the related disciplines of applied psychology.
Syllabus
  • Young adulthood: specifics of "emerging adulthood", social relationship, family and work. Middle adulthood: middle age crisis, social relationship, family and work. Older adulthood: biopsychosocial changes, retirement, social relationship and family, age stereotypes and prejudice. Old age: social relationship and family, health care, dying and bereavement. Developmental disorders and their diagnosis in different stages of development of the individual.

Lectures and seminars (1x14 days).
Assessment methods
This course is completed with an oral examination comprising curriculum of Developmental psychology I and Developmental psychology II. Which means topics of developmental psychology that cover theoretical and methodological questions and human development across whole life-span. For admission to the oral examination, the student must meet the following requirements: attendance at seminars, on time submission of homework given in seminars (e.g. presentations). If these requirements are not met, student will be evaluated by "X" grade and will be not admitted to final exam.
