- Course objectives
- The cource focuses on understanding cultural and social changes of Brno in the inter-war era. The college aims to outline the rise of cultural qualities of Brno in the broadest spectrum (urbanism, building and architectonic activities, housing interiors creation, events on the field of literature, theatre, fine art and music along with the social life of the city).
- Learning outcomes
- The student is able to explain the phenomenon of Brno culture and art in the first middle 20th century.
- Syllabus
- 1. The character of Brno of the beginning o the twentieth century. Essays by Arne Novák called: "Duše Brna a jeho kultura slovesná" (The soul of Brno and its literary culture).
- 2. Urbanistic development of Brno between 1848-1918. Brno regulation urbanistic competitions between 1924, 1927 and 1933.
- 3. Architecture of Brno in the twenties and thirties.
- 4. City housing interiors creation - "UP závody", magazine "Bytová kultura".
- 5. City´s fine art associations - "Maehrischer Kunstverein", "Vereinigung der deutschen bildender Kuenstler Maehrens und Schlesiens", "Klub výtvarných umělců Aleš", "Skupina výtvarných umělců".
- 6. Literary associations in Brno - "Moravské kolo spisovatelů", "Literární skupina", "Literarische Gesellschaft".
- 7. Journalism in the city - journal "Lidové noviny", magazines "Salon", "Měsíc" and "Der Monat".
