- Course objectives
- The seminar will focus on the development of the student's abilities to understand Czech literary texts and present a reasoned interpretation of them. The content of the seminar will be the interpretation of selected works of Czech literature; texts are naturally selected above all with regard to their literary quality, but also taking into consideration the role which Czech literature often played in history- here in relation to social and political influences. Through lecture and discussion a picture should emerge of the specific features of the evolution of Czech literature against the background of Czech cultural history. (The most space will be devoted to 20th century literature, nevertheless it is not possible to omit more recent phases of development.)
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the subject, the student will be able to:
- analyse and interpret chosen texts from Czech literature;
- have a good understanding of the Czech literary context of the 20th and 21st centuries;
- compare the development of Czech literature in the 20th and 21st centuries with the development of literature in their own country;
- apply the knowledge gained in the analysis of literary texts. - Syllabus
