Course objectives
The goal is to present selected phenomena in the grammar of Czech not as isolated data points, but rather as a specific manifestation of universal tendencies and generalisations. The students acquire the knowledge of universal principles that shape language structure, and they will be able to see how these general laws are manifested in particular phenomena in Czech grammar. The means of achieving these goals is the comparison if Czech with selected languages.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to:
- describe phonological universals of Czech;
- understand morphological universals of Czech;
- understand syntactic universals of Czech;
