- Course objectives
- The course places emphasis on the knowledge of the main problems of the Western Europe since the migration of the nations and the fall of the Western Roman Empire since the end of the Middle Ages; the ability to understand the chosen problems concerning the history of the Western Europe of the Middle Ages; the ability to analyse the period sources; the capability to resume the main problems concerning the development of the Western Europe of the Middle Ages; the ability to understand the values of the Western European civilization.
- Learning outcomes
- The course graduate should be equipped with clear knowledge and understanding of the main historical chapters that have influenced the Medieval Western Civilization.
- Syllabus
- The Middle Ages, the time and spatial connections, the problems of the periodization, the man of the Middle Ages and his world.
- The migration of the nations, the end of the antiquity, the beginning of the Middle Ages.
- The unification of the Western Europe in the reign of the Merovingian and the Carolingian dynasty.
- The Ottonian Renaissance
- The fight for the investiture
- The world of the crusades
- The transformations of the Central Europe in the reign of the dynasty of Staufs
- The beginnings of the nations of the Middle Ages
- The rise of the France
- The crisis of the late Middle Ages
