Course objectives
The goal of the course is to learn a selected part of the lexicon which is divided into five thematic areas. The student will interact with the lector (native speaker). Although the main focus is given on the acquisition of the Czech Sign Language lexicon, the will be also a practical training of the grammar included in the course TCZJ02 Czech Sign Language I, which is obligatory for students in the Czech Sign Language Interpreting program and recommended for students in the General Linguistics program.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student knows the lexicon defined by the five thematic areas. He understands and is able to use the lexical units in isolation, as well as the phrases concerning a given situation.
Syllabus
  • Thematic areas: 1. Me and my family; topics: introducing myself and the others, members of my family, basic description and characteristics of my family's members. 2. My surroundings; topics: items in the room, colors, shapes, and materials of things. 3. My home; topics: my house or apartment and its surroundings, things I own, known cities and their sights, my country and the neighboring countries. 4. Everyday life and time; topics: days in the week, numerals in temporal expressions, my daily routine, basic types of meals and drinks, months of the year and their activities, holidays. 5. Life in a city; topics: transport and traffic, basic types of shops and institutions, my way to school or work, my way home (description).

- practical training in CSL - work with the lector - demonstration methods: work with image and video
Assessment methods
It is required to attend the lectures (at least 70 %) and do the homework. At least 70 % of the homework points must be gained. After a student sends the homework to the teacher, the teacher evaluates the homework and sends it back to the student to do the correction. Such corrected homework is re-evaluated by the teacher just once (for each homework).
