Course objectives
Comparative education course deals with the fundamental theories and conceptions of this field of study and with its international infrastructure. Emphasis is put on the contemporary European and world trends in education in connection with social and other conditions of the regions concerned at the end of this millennium. The study materials are the works of significant personalities of foreign comparative pedagogy and prestigious comparative studies of recent years. The fundamental method of work is a comparative method. The starting point of comparison is the contemporary state of the Czech educational system.
Learning outcomes
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
place comparative education within the system of social and educational sciences
describe and critically assess the quality of comparative research
describe typologies of educational systems
describe and critically assess the international comparisons and testing
describe and critically assess educational systems and the relationships between education and wides societal context.

Teaching methods
Regular interactive lectures and tasks in elf, in-person seminars.
Assessment methods
Completion of regular tasks in elf, compulsory attendance, and a final oral exam (100%).
