- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the main trends of contemporary religious life in the Czech Republic, with the genesis of these trends and possible prospects for the future. Emphasis will be placed on the transformation of religious life in Czech society after 1989, taking into account the political, social and economic changes in the Czech society.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- to identify the main trends of Czech religiosity in the 19th and 20th centuries;
- critically reflect the key features of modern Czech society toward religion and religious groups;
- to analyze and interpret significant researches focused on Czech religiosity;
- describe and interpret differences in legislative arrangements concerning the activities of religious groups;
- to explain and critically reflect some specific features of Czech religiosity (e.g. Czech atheism)
- to identify the main trends of Czech religiosity in the 19th and 20th centuries;

- Changes in the religious situation in the Czech lands from 1627 to 1918; Religion in interwar Czechoslovakia; Religious situation in Communist regime I.: 1950‘s and 1960’s; Religious situation in Communist regime II.: 1970‘s and 1980’s; Religion in Czech society in the 1990‘s; Religious situation in the Czech Republic at the beginning of the 3rd millennium; Czech atheism and Czech skepticism; Institutionalized and alternative religiosity in Czech society after 1989; Research focused on Czech religiosity in 20th and 21st Century; Legislative framework of the activities of religious groups and their transformation in the 20th century.

- Exam: Knowledge test ( 30%), conspectus ( 30%, timely submission of 10%, quality of conspectus of 20 %), oral exam (40%).
Colloquium: Knowledge test (70%), conspectus ( 30%, timely submission of 10%, quality of conspectus of 20 %). Students of Religious studies are required to complete the course with an exam. - Language of instruction
