You will have the opportunity to participate in joint analyses of selected Vietnamese literary texts and discussions about them. Throughout the readings, you will familiarize yourself with the circumstances of the creation of these works, the period in which they were written, their contemporary significance for Vietnamese society, and their reception. The aim of the course is to provide a practical introduction to modern Vietnamese literature, which is the most accessible through translations, even for beginners in Vietnamese studies or those interested in Vietnamese studies.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course Modern Vietnamese Literature, students will be able to:
Gain a Better Understanding of Modern Vietnamese Literature: In the course, students will have the opportunity to acquire a more extensive knowledge of modern Vietnamese literature, including its works, authors, and literary trends from this era.
Explore Historical and Cultural Context: Course participants will be capable of understanding the historical and cultural contexts in which literary works were created and comprehend how these circumstances influenced specific Vietnamese literary texts.
Engage in Discussions About Modern Vietnamese Literature: Students will actively participate in discussions about modern Vietnamese literature.
Evaluate the Contemporary Significance of Vietnamese Literature: They will be able to assess the contemporary relevance of literary works and engage in discussions about their current value within Vietnamese society and the literary scene.

If interested, they can attempt a short translation of any Vietnamese literary text into Czech.
Acquire Knowledge About Vietnamese Culture, History, and Society: Through the study of Vietnamese literary works, students will continue to expand their knowledge about Vietnamese culture, history, and society.
