The course is open to students in the five-year Bachelor's and five-year Master's cycle, with the exception of the History, Archival Studies and Auxiliary Historical Sciences programmes. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- The aim of the course is to present archives and their cultural wealth as potential sources of a large amount of analog information of various types and multifaceted use. Students will familiarize themselves with the possibilities that archives offer in processing qualification theses or complementing materials for various professions through model situations in different fields (social sciences, natural sciences, technical sciences). They will learn about the system of storing and retrieving documents, essential information tools or databases, forms and possibilities of digitization, as well as the applicable legislation.
They will also get acquainted with current trends in the field (e.g., the issue of long-term data preservation), or the broader societal context reflecting the relationship between politics, power, and control over archives; the intersection of public and private in archives; the protection of personal data and the right to be forgotten, etc.
Students will broaden their horizons regarding overlooked sources of information for their fields, think in a broader context, and reflect on their academic and life work with regard to future preservation and use. - Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to:
• Explain the specifics of functionig of the archivess;
• Describe the network of archives in CZ;
• Find and assess archival sources;
•apply the use of archival sources in the context of their own discipline. - Syllabus
