- The only prerequisite for taking the course is basic technical literacy, which will allow you to start and set up the borrowed headset. However, students will always have the support of the course tutors.

- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course is to introduce learners to VR technology, the Oculus Quest 2 headset, and a selection of VR applications that provide a basic overview of how VR works and how it is used. Designed as an introduction to VR, the course will provide a theoretical foundation for understanding the topic, representative practical demonstrations and space for learners to reflect on their personal experiences.
- Learning outcomes
- After the course, students should be able to:
- control the virtual environment and the necessary hardware
- understand the impact of basic elements of VR on the VR user experience and their cognitive processing
- search and find VR apps suitable for various purposes and target groups
- critically assess areas and topics in which VR has an especially high or low potential - reflect on their own VR experience and transform such experience into a constructive feedback. - Syllabus
- Lectures: 1) Introduction to VR and course essentials 2) Avatars - virtual humans 3) Virtual environments 4) Social interaction in VR 5) VR and Education --- 6) Application testing and reflection.
- Teaching methods
- A short asynchronous lecture on a sub-topic will be prepared in the interactive base each week in the first part of the semester. In the semester's second half, synchronous application testing dates will be scheduled. All students should test a minimum of 4 applications. Each of the selected apps will be tested on two early evening dates (both outside of Friday classes) to give students the opportunity to choose the one that is more convenient for them. The testing will include short reflective discussions.
- Assessment methods
- During the examination period, a series of reflective discussions (colloquia) will be held to discuss the connection of the acquired theoretical knowledge with the learners' own experience. Therefore, the condition for successful completion of the course is active participation in one of the final colloquia.
