Course objectives
The main objectives of the course are the followings:
acquainting students with basic terminology - conservation, rastauration, preparation;
making students aware of methods of conservation work;
making students aware of documentation of conseravtion
Learning outcomes

- making students aware of documentation of conservation
- plans of conservation management in museums
Syllabus
  • Introduction, definition of the concept of conservation and restoration, other terminology;
  • Ethical codes and international standards for conservators-restorers, legislation of the profession;
  • Documentation of conservation and restoration interventions - Conservation Record;
  • Preventive conservation - physical, chemical, and biological factors of material deterioration, principles of prevention and remediation of collection items, museum standards for microclimatic parameters;
  • Conservation-restoration of inorganic materials: basic characteristics of materials and treatment procedures for objects made of metals, ceramics, and glass;
  • Conservation-restoration of organic materials: basic characteristics of materials and treatment procedures for objects made of paper, wood, and textiles.
