- Course objectives
- The main aim of the study subject Social patohoghy is to understand the theoretical basis and causations of social deviations; to get an overview of main social pathological phenomena, their manifestations, etiology, consequences and possibilities of prevention or treathment; to acquire the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in the practice of a social pedagogue.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- describe selected social deviations;
- describe the etiology and consequences of selected social deviations;
- to propose options for the prevention of selected social deviations. - Syllabus
- Introduction to social pathology, main concepts.
- Etiology of social deviations.
- Aggression and violence - etiology, social aspects, prevention and elimination; vandalism.
- Bullying – types of bullying, personality of aggressor and victim, development of bullying, prevention and possibilities of bullying; cyberbullying; mobbing and bossing.
- Abuse of psychoactive substances I. - non-alcoholic addiction (addiction syndrome, diagnosis of addiction, types of addictions, opiates, stimulants, hallucinogens, cannabinoids, inhalants, tobacco; addiction treatment).
- Abuse of psychoactive substances II. - alcohol addiction(statistics, diagnostic criteria, consequences, treatment). Addictive and impulsive disorders - definition, etiology, risk groups, prevention and treatment; gambling, pyromania, kleptomania, trichotillomania.
- Modern addictions - netholism, oniomania, nomophobia, workoholism (symptoms, diagnostic criteria, consequences.
- Body image and its social pathological manifestations - physical self-esteem; psychogenic overeating; mental anorexia, mental bulimia, dysmorphhobia (bigorexia).
- Socially pathological phenomena associated with the family environment - domestic violence, CAN syndrome.
- Home escapes, homelessness, prostitution.
- Suicide - statistics, forms, motives and causes of suicidal behavior; tendency to suicidal behavior, possibilities of prevention.
- Sect and destructive movement - specific features of sects, typology of sects and cults, overview of contemporary sects, causes of entry into the sect.

- Teaching methods
- Lecure and seminar - explanation, work with audiovisual materials (film documents and their analysis), simulation and situational methods, playing roles, discussion.
- Assessment methods
- (1) Active participation in seminars; (2) Elaboration of a case report of an individual in whom a selected socio-pathological phenomenon occurs and a proposal for the solution of a problem and its prevention. The case study will take the form of a scientific text prepared in the range of 1 to 2 standard pages (i.e., 3,600 characters without title page and bibliography); (3) Successful completion of the test - The test contains 20 questions that are generated randomly from the task bank. To complete the test, it is necessary to answer min. 50% questions correctly. The test is based on the provided presentations and assigned tasks to study.
