Course objectives
The aim of the course is to give the student an overview of individual types of Ukrainian folk music, concepts of the theoretical reflections of Ukrainian music folklore and a chronological overview of Ukrainian classical music.
Learning outcomes
The student will gain knowledge in forms of Ukrainian folk music and in the developmental trends and personalities of Ukrainian classical music production.

  • 2. Ukrainian instrumental folklore.
  • 3. The phenomenon of the elderly musicians.
  • 4. The first collecting effort of Ukrainian folk music.
  • 5. Mykola Lysenko as a collector and a musical folklorist.
  • 6. Musical-folkloristic theory of Volodymyr Hoshovsky.
  • 7. Ukrainian artificial music at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
  • 8. Mykola Lysenko as a composer.
  • 9. Figures of Ukrainian artificial music in 20th century.
  • 10. Czech-Ukrainian musical relations in the interwar period.
