Course objectives
The aim of the course is to review and deepen the knowledge gained from Korean Language courses 1–4. Emphasis is placed on intermediate grammar, covering various levels of politeness and corresponding suffixes for final predicates, tense suffixes, non-final predicate endings, and the use of topic-comment markers (such as 은/는) to distinguish between sentence themes and comments. The course also focuses on different forms of negation and the use of counters or classifiers (numerals specifically used for counting particular categories of items, such as people, animals, books, bottles, sheets of paper, etc.), essential for expressing quantities accurately. Another key area includes case markers or particles (such as the subject particle 이/가 or the object particle 을/를), which clarify the grammatical roles of words within sentences. Additionally, students will practice the main types of irregular verbs, with particular focus on their correct usage in various contexts, aiming for fluent and natural conversation.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student knows the main principles of Korean grammar (final and non-final verb form endings, temporal and honorific suffixes, topic/focus particles, counters) and can use them in everyday conversation on casual topics.
