Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the profession of social pedagogy in the school setting. Students will gain a detailed understanding of the role of this counselor, its importance, competencies, and responsibilities within the school system. The position of the social pedagogue will be presented in the broader context of social pedagogy, defining his/her scope of practice, values and work philosophy. Students will be introduced to different methods and techniques of working with pupils with diverse needs, including supporting children with social, emotional and learning difficulties. They will learn how to apply effective approaches that focus on pupils' individual needs and their potential development.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- describe the role of the social pedagogue in the school environment;
- use a variety of methods and techniques to work with students of diverse needs;
- be familiar with models and procedures for effective communication and collaboration with students' families;
- understand the socio-cultural aspects that can influence the dynamics of school-family relationships;
- apply strategies for working with pupils' families.

Teaching methods
Lecture, seminar, excursion, workshop For the completion of the course, a load of 125 hours (5 ECTS credits) is calculated: 20 hours - participation in the classroom 25 hours - reading literature, self-study of study materials and systematic preparation for seminars 10 hours - excursion and completion of tasks resulting from it 10 hours - participation in the workshop and completion of assignments 10 hours - independent solution of case studies 15 hours - preparation and presentation of group projects 35 hours - preparation for written test
Assessment methods
The following is required to complete the course: (1) attendance of at least 75%; (2) systematic preparation according to the instructions given by the instructor and active participation in the seminar; (3) preparation and presentation of a project (more information will be given by the instructor in class); (4) participation in a field trip; (5) successful completion of a written test aimed at verifying knowledge based on the course syllabus.
